Guest Post! Publicizing My Book by Angie M. Brashears, author of Becoming Blue

Publicizing My Book
by Angie M. Brashears, author of Becoming Blue

When I got the idea for The Chubby Chasers, Inc. Series, I felt like I had a great story to tell. As I wrote, I poured over information. Blogs, for readers and writers, looking for information on how to self-publish a book. As I searched for the how-to of publishing on your own, I realized there wasn’t a lot of information out there for a new writer - or what was out there conflicted. It was like there was a secret club, and I wasn’t a part of it. More and more, I felt like I needed to know someone to get a foot in the door.

One great piece of advice I received on my journey was to get a good editor. How would I do that? They’re not listed in the yellow pages. I poured through some of my favorite books, and turned to the back of the book. The credit page. I found my editor that way. I liked the way she edited the stories I’d read, so I emailed her. She got right back to me! She even gave me a discount on my first book, Becoming Blue. When I sent her the manuscript, I was so worried she’d read it, and hate it. But she loved it! She was very encouraging and helped fine tune my grammar, but more importantly, she gave this new author some much needed encouragement. Now I knew someone! I should sell a million books, right? Wrong.

No matter how spectacular the story - without publicity - all you’ve got is a great book that your family reads. I tried advertising on Facebook, but still felt like it was a drop in the bucket. I went to a very successful writer, took a chance, and private messaged her, wondering who she uses to get the word out. "Xpresso Tours, the best in the business," she said. Well, it works for her, so I hired them.

And here we are. I’m starting my blog tour, still learning the art of publicizing my book, and hoping to get the word out. It’s a long process, one I continue to learn about, and hope to master. It always helps if you know someone, but I’m hoping to meet a lot of someone’s on my journey.

Angie M Brashears is a lover of everything books.  When not writing, she's reading anything she can get her hands on. Every single thing I’ve been taught not to do…I just did.
Talk to a stranger? Check
Get in a car with a stranger? Check
Go to a second location? Check
Go into a stranger’s house? Check
Take candy from a stranger? Check
If this is a kidnapping, it’s the kindest one I’ve ever heard of.
I’m living a fat girl fantasy. Snatched from a Weight Watcher meeting by a powdered-donut eating stranger, was by far the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me. Who knew I didn’t need to make appointments or attend meetings to have someone to talk to. A Friend. Two Friends. A dark, intense stranger. Secrets.
Everything I ever wanted, and something’s I didn’t. Not every tasty treat is for eating.
To each his own….right?
